NOW OFFERING SPEECH IN THE PARK!
Speech & Language Therapy
Early intervention is my passion. I absolutely love working with the infant, toddler, and preschool populations, particularly language delay and articulation, and it has been my pleasure working with youngsters and their families, previously in the United States and currently in Canada, for 30 years now...
New! Beginning July 2020: "Speech in the Park". Accepting new clients for In-person services OUTDOORS!
WHO: Children at least age 4, and and children entering Kindergarten in September 2020 experiencing ARTICULATION difficulties. *Priority given to children whom have been on a wait list.
WHERE: In one of the beautiful North Shore Parks near you (or a park with a covered picnic shelter or pavilion for rainy days)
HOW: I will use a transparent mask (see blog!) and we will physically distance outdoors on separate picnic blankets or benches and be using other safety precautions and guidelines while I assess and provide services to your child. (Dr. Bonnie Henry would be proud!) *One parent to attend with child (sorry, no siblings may attend for safety reasons and we want the focus to be on your child)
WHY: Because it looks like COVID-19 may be here for awhile and we shouldn't let COVID-19 dictate your child's learning, and your child will have safe face- to- face interaction and fun learning his/her sounds in the great outdoors! Did you know that movement can be an effective cognitive strategy? It improves memory and retrieval, strengthens learning, and enhances motivation and morale? Therapy sessions outdoors will also incorporate fun movement activities while practicing speech sounds!
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE WINTER MONTHS We will discuss options which may include continued outdoor sessions with your child bundled up and being seen under a picnic shelter pavilion (might be a good opportunity for your child to get some fresh air and change of scenery and off the screen if schools are continuing in an online fashion this fall), or even a hybrid model where we can do a combination of outdoor sessions and virtual sessions. It could even include occasional virtual consultations with the parent to guide next steps. If you have a covered deck or carport and provide a table where we can properly distance, your home (North Shore only) can be an option as well (I would wear a transparent mask). Flexibility is key and we will work together.
Let's connect in person safely and get working on your child's speech sounds! Please contact me through my contact form or email me at for more details and to book your spot!
I am also pleased to offer services for children under age 3 with language delay using the medium of teletherapy with emphasis and focus on mobile coaching and collaboration with parents or caregivers while we ride out this pandemic. Parent coaching by a speech language pathologist has always been a vital ingredient in early intervention treatment and is evidence-based, and you, the parent, are the “secret sauce” to deliver the language strategies directly to your child. We will work together virtually as a team to plan activities within your routines and toys you already have. No special tools needed: I will show you how your child's "toy box" becomes your "toolbox" to encourage speech and language! Again- don't let COVID-19 dictate when you and your child will receive support; contact me to see how I can help.
Regretfully, I will be suspending my in-person home and school visits until further notice, and until it is safe for everyone involved to do so.
HOW TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT
1. Please fill out below “Contact Me” form to request a free phone consultation. I will contact you as soon as I can so that I can hear your concerns and best determine your needs, and to determine if an assessment is needed (assessments are a required first step unless you can provide a formal assessment that has been conducted within the last 6 months).
2. Once we have booked a date together on the phone, go to the FORMS section of the website, download the first two PDF documents, and send the completed and signed forms back to my email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The first file is my teletherapy client agreement & informed consent form and the other is a case history intake form. Forms must be completed and returned to me before we can continue with any assessment or therapy activities.
