Check this out

Take a peek at this wonderful resource to help children cope with what’s been going on in their world lately. It is a free downloadable book from Piplo Productions called: Trinka and Sam Fighting the Big Virus: Trinka, Sam and Littletown Work Together,by Chandra Michiko Ghosh Ippen and Melissa Brymer and illustrated by Erich Ippen, Jr. It also includes a free downloadable Parent Guide, Companion booklet (how to answer kids’ questions), and a feelings poster for kids. I suggest reading through the book yourself and look at the Parent Guide first before sharing it with your child. You can leave some parts out or modify the book depending on the age and needs of your child. Pick and choose what works or resonates for each of your children. You can use it as a colouring book as you talk about it, you can talk about emotions with the poster and ask which ones they have felt lately. It validates the frustrations that both children and adults may feel and it gives suggestions on how to cope during those times. It does a very fine job of explaining, describing and relating to how we all may be feeling and how to develop resilience in difficult circumstances. Not to worry, it isn’t all doom and gloom; It describes the positive things that can come out of hard times as well and that is comforting, especially knowing the whole world is in this together. Can your family each go around the dinner table and tell at least one thing that has been a positive that has come out of this?
